Elgato Teleprompter: Versatile Usage for Enhanced Productivity
Now, imagine you’re on a Zoom call and you want to look directly at the people, or you want to speak directly from your Twitch chat, or maybe you want to easily read a script for a presentation or a YouTube video – this gadget has got your back!
A Blend of Convenience and Affordability
Elgato Teleprompter, have been a part of the scene for a bit, but many available in the market need to link up with a phone or tablet. These products tend to come in an affordable price, normally not more then $200. However, the most recent product, Elgato has come up with a game-changer—a teleprompter that seamlessly connects directly to your PC or laptop using USB-C. The best part? No need for extra power cords. This is a very convenient and hassle-free solution for worker bees and tech fanatics.
Impressive Display and Camera Integration
The prompter has a large 9-inch display (1024 x 600) that reflects on a beam splitter glass, allowing cameras to record without the need for clunky setups. Elgato has thought about everyone who wants to use their Prompter – from DSLR/mirrorless cameras to their Facecam Pro webcam, and even phones and other cameras through a universal adapter.
In the box, there are nine step-up rings that can attach to your camera lens without the need for a lens with threads or a mirror. They come in standard sizes. So compatibility with most cameras should not be an issue.
There are also multiple quarter-inch threads and cold shoe mounts so you can attach a microphone or accessories to the prompter.
Easy Setup and User-Friendly Interface
Setting up is as easy as sliding the step-up ring onto your camera lens and slotting the prompter in place, then plugging in the USB-C cable. Elgato’s Camera Hub app provides essential Prompter software, allowing you to easily scroll full-screen text or even display a Twitch chat feed. You can use it on Mac or Windows PC for regular display and pull up your Zoom or Microsoft Teams calls, so you can directly see people during meetings.
Tailoring the Experience
The camera mount options are pretty basic, including font size, color, and scrolling speed for the teleprompter. You can also control the display brightness from here. I found that tilting it down by up to 10% made it easier for me to maintain eye contact during video calls.
Enhancing Content Creation
I’ve recently used the prompter during Zoom and Teams calls and for recording videos for The Verge. We usually script our YouTube videos, and memorizing them can add a lot of time to production. I’ve used the prompter for the video above, recording everything in a single take.
Elgato Teleprompter: An Investment Worth Making
Elgato has also created a Stream Deck plugin for the prompter, making it easy to control the teleprompter’s text, approve display brightness, or adjust font size on the fly with buttons (or a foot pedal).
Elgato’s Prompter is now available for purchase at $279.99. It’s not cheap, but I think it’s justified based on how it has improved my own video work. There are many more expensive options out there where you can slot in your phone or iPad, but Elgato has really nailed the blend of hardware and software for a market of working-from-home professionals, streamers, and YouTubers who want a real hardware and software solution.
