COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ray Tanner is stepping down as South Carolina’s athletic director after 12 seasons, he stated Friday.
Tanner, a two-time nationwide champion baseball coach for Gamecocks, took over as head of the division in 2012 following his crew’s third straight journey to the School World Collection. He introduced his intentions at a gathering of the college’s board of trustees.
Tanner, 66, will stay athletic director till his successor arrives. Tanner will then transition to turn into athletic director emeritus and senior adviser to the president, specializing in fundraising and group engagement.
